Made with love in the heart of Sussex
Based in our home in Sussex, we are Rob and Sarah Michell. A health scare a few years’ ago made us rethink our lives and we took the plunge to make our dream of running a mobile food and coffee business a reality, and so The Scruffy Crow was born!
The hospitality industry was a complete change for us, but we quickly got the hang of it. It’s long hours and hard work, but we love trading at events - being part of the community there and serving our customers. Not to mention all the brilliant and interesting people we meet along the way.
We’re about making delicious food and coffee using the best products we can, from small, local suppliers, all cheerfully and efficiently served from our beautiful horse box.

Scruffy by name, not by nature...
Rest assured, we’re not at all scruffy! We are proud of our 5* hygiene rating and our team works hard to create top quality food and coffee in a clean, safe and happy environment.

But why crow?
The inspiration came in part from one of the best bands we have seen at Glastonbury, The Black Crows. What a fantastic weekend that was!
Equally, we love the countryside and are lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the UK, surrounded by fields, meadows, woods, and you guessed it, lots of crows!
We have to be honest here though because we did also think it made for a great name!

The star of the show
Our beautiful horsebox has been lovingly restored for us and is a talking point for visitors, whatever the event - country show, music festival, sports event or wedding.
Not only does it look fab, it’s big enough for us to be able to easily and safely cater for the hungry hoards.

Team mascot
Ozzy may be our mascot, but sadly we can’t bring him along to events. He has a fine old time with his dog pals while we’re away.

Why cheese toasties?
You can eat the world at most festivals and events nowadays, but we find that people sometimes just want something filling and simple. A great vegetarian option, our cheese toasties go down a storm with everyone, from children to their grandparents.
Oozy, hot and crispy and made using only the best possible ingredients from small local suppliers - what’s not to like?
-
Last but not least
We could not have done any of this without the support and help of family and friends.
Practical advice from Nick & Emma Michell on how to set up run events, as well as a multitude of young folk to muck in at busy events and festival - it really is a family affair!
Our beautiful website was designed by Tim Roser and his talented daughter Meg drew our striking and fun logo. Humble thanks to you all for helping us to make it happen.
